Ms. Athing Mu

Athing Mu is an American middle-distance runner specializing in the 800 meters. She was born on June 8, 2002, in Trenton, New Jersey. Athing Mu made her mark in the track and field world with remarkable performances at the collegiate and professional levels.

She competed for Texas A&M University and became a standout athlete, winning several NCAA titles and setting numerous records.

In 2021, Athing Mu represented the United States at the Tokyo Olympics, where she won a gold medal in the women’s 800 meters. She became the second-youngest American to win an Olympic gold medal in a running event.

Athing Mu’s talent, speed, and impressive achievements have made her one of the rising stars in track and field. She continues to inspire and captivate fans with her exceptional performances on the track.

Athing Mu has been on a winning streak since she last lost an 800-meter race three years ago. She has won American, Olympic and world championships in the distance before turning 21. Many consider her one of the most exciting athletes in track and field at present. When she held off Keely Hodgkinson’s late challenge to win gold at the World Championships last year, Mu became the youngest woman ever to own both Olympic and world titles in individual track events. Given her success, it is not surprising that Mu feels pressure from herself as well as external sources. “There’s pressure, for sure,” says Mu from Los Angeles where she moved recently for new training programs.

The athlete wants to keep her winning streak alive but also focus on outdoor season preparations leading up to the next world championships. “I would love to continue this streak,” admits Mu who withdrew from Millrose Games earlier this month to concentrate on the outdoor season. Despite being just three months younger than rival Hodgkinson, Mu holds bragging rights over her head-to-head competition after beating her in the final straight during Tokyo Olympics and edging her out in a thrilling sprint finish at the previous world championship.
